What you will need:
- Approximately 1 1/2 yard of fabric. This will depend on the size of your lamp shade. *
- Scissors
- Needle + thread
- Hot glue gun + at least 6 hot glue sticks
- Pins or sewing clips
- Fabric pen
Step by step guide:
- The first thing is to measure the height of your lampshade. You will add 1 extra inch to your measurement. Mark and cut straight.
- Mark a line 1/2 inch from the top and bottom edge with your fabric pen.
- Prepare your needle and make sure to tie a knot at the end (this is so that when you gather you don’t pull the thread out of the fabric).
- Sew along the marked line and then sew another line 1/2 inch below that.
- Begin to gather the lampshade to fit it to size. Then you glue the top and bottom with hot glue and you can cut the 1/2 inch protruding from both ends (top and bottom).
- Measure the top and bottom of your lampshade to make the biases. Fold the fabric on the bias and mark 1 inch (which will be a 2 inch bias when you open the fabric).
- Cut and iron 1/2 inch on each side inward. It’s easier with a bias maker :)
- Fold in half and glue in the center with hot glue.
- Glue up and down the lampshade making a small fold at the end of the bias for a better finish.
- Now turn on your lamp and enjoy!
